Figure
This is one of my simple figure drawings of a female model. The time to draw this was approximately 6-8 min. Quick shading was used to help separate the positive lighter portions of the figure from the negative lightness of the background surrounding it.
Naturalism
Naturalism; The skillful representation of the visual image, forms, and proportions as seen in nature with an illusion of volume and three-dimensional space.
A close up of the flowers found in The Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory in Key West, FL. It’s so vibrant that you can almost feel the delicate flora.
Cross Hatching
Cross Hatching; A drawing technique in which a series of lines are layered over each other to build up value and to suggest form and volume.
One of a few of my lighting experiments with crosshatching used to form an egg.
Gesture
Gesture; A line that does not stay at the edges but moves freely within forms. These lines record movement of the eye as well as implying the motion in the form.
Suprematism
Suprematism; An early 1900's experimental form of art in Russia that reflected the interest in the industrial era.
What appears to be a power plant by the Burlington Bristol Bridge. This has been edited in Photoshop to give it a look that better suits Suprematism.
Legato
Legato; A connecting and flowing rhythm.
This is a panoramic or, long shot, (legato) of the Neshaminy Marina. This was made from multiple shots pieced together; a bit difficult without the proper camera for it!
Formal
Formal; Traditional and generally accepted visual solutions.
Grell Sutcliff in the Victorian Furniture display in the Metropolitan Museum of art. He stands beside a lovely deep red claw foot couch, appearing to belong with such a display.
Classical
Classical- Suggestive of Greek and Roman ideals of beauty and purity of form, style, or technique.
A gleaming table serving tray for fruit. Part of the Victorian Furniture display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Enigmatic
Enigmatic; Puzzling or cryptic in appearance or meaning.
A piece from my chaos and order project during its construction. This modified photograph certainly has a mysterious, yet, energizing feel to it.
Radial Design
Radial Design; When all the elements in a design point towards one point.
Spanning across the water, this dark web waits.
“Day into night, sugar into salt, living to dead, and dark blue into gold.”
In loving memory.
Value
Value; A measure of relative lightness or darkness.
Fall is approaching. When the sun hits the leaves just right the display can be quite stunning.
Grid
Grid; A network of horizontal and vertical intersecting lines that divide spaces and create a framework of areas.
Above is the baby Yoshi sprite layout I made for my second 3-d sculpture. This character can be found in the video game titled “Super Mario World” for those who aren’t familiar.
Proximity
Proximity; The degree of closeness in the placement of elements.
This is a lovely close up I took of a butterfly at The Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory in Key West, FL. Look at that robust proboscis!
If you know the name of this species, give yourself a pat on the back, because you’re a step ahead of me!
Collage
Collage; An artwork created by assembling and pasting a variety of materials to a two-dimensional surface.
These are various pictures taken from Otakon, an anime convention in Baltimore, MD, 2007-2010. Close-ups of pieces of my current and past costumes were put in there as well to add more texture to the collage.
Content
Content; An idea conveyed through the artwork that implies the subject matter, story, or information the artist communicates to the viewer.
This is a project I completed for a 3-d sculpture class; the subject of this particular piece is chaos and order.
So then…what does this picture say to you?
